There are so many new career terms floating around (e.g., quiet firing, quiet cracking) that I’m having a hard time keeping up. The latest one taking over my pitch inbox is ‘job hugging’ which is a cutesy way of saying “holding on to a job you don’t really want”.
A new survey of US workers shows that almost half of respondents are job hugging due to fears about the economy and AI. In practice, job hugging turns into working longer hours and taking on more work. It’s a bid for more career security, but doubling down on your current employer is still a risky strategy.
No matter how tightly you hug your job, your job might not hug you back.
In my Forbes post, Job Hugging Is Not A Strategy – 5 Better Paths To Financial Security, I share tips on putting together your job search “go-bag” and other ways to build financial security, no hugging required.
